Hi. My name is David Bellis and I am a teacher/administrator here at the Adult Centre. This is the beginning of my fifth year here; prior to that I was at Frances Kelsey for twelve years. I am married to Sylvia, and we have two boys, Jesse and Kevin. I enjoy many sports, fitness training, reading, and good movies.
CALC is a special place to work because of the courage and dedication of the students. It is a privilege to help them on their journeys, and it is my hope that the CALC continues to expand its services.
I taught at a private Christian school for four years, then ten years at Chemainus Secondary, and am now starting my fourteenth year at Adult Ed. I enjoy teaching both English and Math to adults. It is very gratifying to help people move ahead in achieving their goals and to see them succeed. Education plays such an important part in people’s lives, and it is a privilege to be involved in the process.
My wife Ruth and I have four grown children and one granddaughter. I enjoy playing tennis, golf, and floor hockey.
My name is Mel Burgess and I am a teacher at the Adult Learning Centre. This is the beginning of my fifth year here at CALC. Prior to working at the Adult Learning Centre I worked at Mt. Prevost Middle School and also taught in Japan.
I have two children, Mikayla and Hannah and am married to my lovely wife, Camilla.
I enjoy sports and stay active by playing hockey and jogging. I love to travel and try to camp and hike as much as I can in summers.
Working at CALC has been the highlight of my teaching career thus far. Helping students achieve their goals and watching them succeed gives me great satisfaction.
